Andrés Rizo

Andrés Rizo is a rising second-year law student at Chicago-Kent College of Law. He earned his B.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago, graduating summa cum laude. Born in Mexico and raised in the Chicagoland area, Andrés has dedicated his career to expanding educational opportunities for Latino students, and advocating for immigration reform and pathways to citizenship for all long-term undocumented immigrants.

As a community organizer, he mobilized Dreamers across Illinois to engage state and federal lawmakers, and to advocate for their families, their futures, and meaningful immigration reform. He also partnered with colleges and universities to identify and address barriers to higher education, and expand access for Latino and undocumented students. Most recently, during Operation Midway Blitz, he organized key community stakeholders in Chicago to establish a local rapid response network that documented and responded to immigration enforcement activities and potential civil rights violations.

Andrés aspires to use his legal education to advance immigrant rights and defend the civil rights of Hispanic and Latino communities throughout the United States. This summer, he joins the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) as a legal intern, where he will support impact litigation efforts aimed at protecting and expanding the rights of Latino communities.
