C’yera Sherrod is a rising 3L at Creighton University School of Law, enrolled in the accelerated Juris Doctor program. She is passionate about juvenile defense, disability justice, and public interest law, with aspirations of becoming a juvenile judge. Her long-term goals include shaping policies related to youth justice and prison conditions.
Currently, she serves as a Race and Disability Youth Defense Intern with Georgetown Law’s Juvenile Justice Initiative and the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Gault Center (MARGC), where she contributes to national research on how race and disability impact youth in the legal system. Locally, she is a Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) Fellow at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, focusing on how disabilities affect system-involved youth in her community and educating youth with disabilities about safe interactions with law enforcement. As a Research Assistant at Creighton, she supports faculty research on juvenile law and policy.
Dedicated to mentorship and accessibility, C’yera teaches an Intro to Law course for first-generation and low-income high school students through the TRIO Upward Bound program. She also holds several leadership roles, including Vice President of the Black Law Student Association, Co-Director of Convention for the Midwest Region of the National Black Law Students Association, AJD Representative for the International Law Student Association, member of the Youth Justice Legal Society, Student Ambassador, and 1L Mentor. This fall, she will serve as a Senior Certified Law Clerk in the Juvenile Justice Legal Clinic.
C’yera holds a B.S. in Education and Human Sciences from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women.
